 Core Beliefs

The Core Beliefs of Ekklesia are rooted in the Bible and informed by historic Christian beliefs. These beliefs inform and inspire our Core Values and Core Focus.

We believe there is one God, the Creator of all things visible and invisible, eternally existing in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, each of whom is fully God; and yet there is only one God. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Genesis 1:1; Colossians 1:16; Matthew 28:19).

We believe God created all humanity in His image, male and female, thereby establishing the inherent dignity and value of every human being. (Genesis 1:26-27).

We believe the first humans, Adam and Eve, rebelled against their Creator, falling short of God’s glory and goodness. This introduced sin into the world and tarnished the image of God in all humanity. As a result, every human is a sinner by choice and by nature and are in desperate need of salvation. (Genesis 2:20; Genesis 3:20; Romans 5:12; Romans 3:23).

We believe Jesus Christ, the Son, was sent by God the Father, was born of a virgin and was conceived by the Holy Spirit. He is truly God and truly Man, making him uniquely able to bring about the salvation of all humankind. (Galatians 4:4; Matthew 1:18; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 2:17; Acts 4:12).

We believe Jesus lived a sinless life and died on a cross as the perfect substitute for all humanity. He was buried and rose again on the third day before ascending to heaven. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father, interceding as the Head of the Church. (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 8:34; Colossians 1:18).

We believe Jesus’s sacrifice is the only path to reconciliation with God. Those who have faith in Him as their Lord and Savior are forgiven now and eternally. This is a free gift for anyone who puts their faith in Christ and is not the result of their own efforts. (Acts 4:12; Romans 5:10; John 3:16-17; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:8-9).

We believe the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and the Son. He draws unbelievers to Christ and indwells believers, empowering them for ministry and to grow in maturity, and sealing them in their salvation until Christ’s return. (John 14:26; John 16:8-11; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; Ephesians 1:13-14).

We believe the Bible, as originally written, is the infallible and inspired revelation of God to humanity. Believers’ submission to the authority of the Bible is essential for maturity in Christ. (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

We believe Christ’s church consists of all those who are reconciled to God. Gathering with and living among a local church is necessary for spiritual growth. (Ephesians 2:19-22; Hebrews 10:24-25).

We believe that Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead. Those who remain in their sin are condemned to eternal suffering in hell. Those whose sins have been forgiven by Christ will be resurrected physically to dwell with God in a new, restored creation. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; John 5:28-29; Revelation 20: 15, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22; Romans 8:20-21).
